Sun Microsystems open sources its Java Programming language and associated software

The company has released the first Java code under version 2 of the General Public License (GPLv2), which governs Linux and other open source products. This will allow Java products to be easily integrated with Linux platform. The Sun-hosted Java.net Web site will offer access to Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME) software for mobile phones and Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) software for desktop applications.

Microsoft changes its strategy

It seems Microsoft has changed it strategy. From years the company focused on Software distributing licenses for its Windows software and building software for the hardware that other manufactured. Now a days company is focusing attention on Xbox, and Zune. Microsoft was the biggest opponent of Open Source but now it is signing agreements with other companies to support it. It signed agreement with Zend for future development of PHP. Microsoft releases its music player "Zune" which is similar to Apple’s iPod. Till now Apple’s iPod, it’s iTunes software and its online music store dominates the digital music market. Zune launch is a Microsoft’s attempt to loosen the iPod grip over digital music market and overtake it, will it be able to do that?
Microsoft’s Zune comes with music library software and online store similar to the Apple’s iPod. Zune device does not work with other online stores and its online store even does not offer songs for non Zune devices. Zune works on wireless technology and comes with 30 GB Harddisk.
